SQL Course With Certificate: How the SQLMaxx Learn Certificate Works

By Owen Middleton · Updated November 2026

SQLMaxx Learn is a SQL course with a certificate: when you master all 66 lessons and claim it, you get the SQLMaxx Certificate of Completion.

The course and the certificate are free. To earn the certificate, you master all 66 lessons and solve at least one problem in each lesson. You take no exam. Each certificate has a public page, and anyone can open it to check the certificate.

SQLMaxx is not an accredited body, and the certificate is not a professional license. We make SQLMaxx Learn, so this page is about our own SQL certificate course.

To compare many certificates, see SQL certifications, ranked and free SQL courses with a certificate.

What is the SQLMaxx Learn certificate?

One certificate, awarded when you have mastered all 66 lessons in the curriculum and solved at least one problem in each. Mastery is measured by the engine as you practice, against a live PostgreSQL database. There is no exam and no fee.

SQLMaxx CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION THE SQLMAXX SQL CURRICULUM ISSUED TO Your name here Awarded for demonstrating mastery of all 66 lessons of the SQLMaxx curriculum, graded against a live PostgreSQL database. Date of issue Not yet issued Lessons mastered 66 Verify at sqlmaxx.com/verify/ followed by your certificate ID SQLMaxx is not an accredited body and this is not a professional license. It records what was demonstrated, on the date shown, under the conditions described.
A sample certificate. Yours shows your name, the issue date and a certificate ID.

The certificate that we issue to you has these items:

  • The title "CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION" and the line "THE SQLMAXX SQL CURRICULUM".
  • Your name.
  • Your certificate ID.
  • The date of issue.
  • The number of lessons that you mastered: 66.
  • A QR code. When you scan it, you go to the public page of your certificate.
  • A short statement about what the certificate is not.

The sample above is not an issued certificate. It has no certificate ID, no date of issue and no QR code.

What do you learn in the SQL course behind the certificate?

SQLMaxx Learn has 66 lessons in 5 tiers, with 615 practice problems. You write each query in a real PostgreSQL database. The database runs in your browser, so you install nothing.

  • Foundations: 12 lessons
  • Core SQL: 15 lessons
  • Intermediate: 14 lessons
  • Advanced: 16 lessons
  • Expert: 9 lessons

The course has two modes:

  • Learn: you practice new lessons, one at a time, in the order of their prerequisites.
  • Review: you practice lessons again when they are due for review. You can also make your own review set.

Each lesson also has a public page. Two examples are Self-Joins explained, in the Core SQL tier, and Common Table Expressions in practice, in the Intermediate tier. For the full list of lessons, see a SQL course with real PostgreSQL: all 66 lessons.

How do you earn the SQL certificate?

Do these four things:

  1. Master all 66 lessons. Each lesson has a mastery score. When you submit answers in Learn, we update your score. In Learn, after you view the solution to a problem, we do not update your score for that problem until you solve it. In the Advanced and Expert tiers, you need a higher score than in the other tiers.
  2. Solve at least one problem correctly in each lesson.
  3. Make an account. You can learn with no account, but you need an account to claim the certificate.
  4. Type the name to print on the certificate. Use 2 to 60 characters: letters, digits, spaces, hyphens, periods and apostrophes. Use at least one letter.

Then click "Confirm and claim" on your certificate page. Before we issue the certificate, we check on our server that you mastered each lesson and solved a problem in each lesson.

You can hold one valid certificate. If you claim again, you get the same certificate with the same ID.

See your progress on your certificate page. On that page, you see how many lessons remain, and you can type your name before you finish. You can open it with no account.

How does an employer check your SQL certificate?

Each certificate has its own public page: sqlmaxx.com/verify/, then the certificate ID. Anyone can open the page with no account. When you scan the QR code on the certificate, you go to the same page.

On the public page, you see:

  • If the certificate is valid or revoked.
  • The name of the holder.
  • The certificate ID.
  • The date of issue.
  • That the certificate does not expire.
  • The issuer: SQLMaxx, on its own register.
  • The certificate itself, with the same name, ID and date.

A certificate ID starts with SQLM-SQL-, then the year of issue and 6 characters. In these 6 characters, we do not use characters that look almost the same, for example the letter O and the digit 0. If you type an ID in lower case letters, you still get the correct page.

What the check proves: SQLMaxx issued this certificate on this date. On the page, you see the name that the holder uses now. What the check does not prove: who the person is. The learner types the name, and we do not check identity documents.

How do you add the SQL certificate to LinkedIn?

  1. Claim your certificate.
  2. On your certificate page, click "Add to LinkedIn".
  3. You go to LinkedIn. With the link, you send these values to LinkedIn: the name, the issuing organization, the month and year of issue, the credential ID and the credential URL.
  4. Check the values.
  5. Save.

The name that you send is "SQLMaxx Certificate of Completion". The credential URL that you send is the public page of your certificate.

On the same page, click "Copy verification link" to copy the address of your public page. Click "Download PNG" to save an image of your certificate. You see these three buttons only after you claim the certificate.

What the SQL certificate is not: no exam, no accreditation

SQLMaxx is not an accredited body and this is not a professional license. No certificate from anyone gets you a job on its own. It records what you did, on the date shown, under the conditions described.

You take no exam for this certificate. We measure mastery while you practice, from your answers to the practice problems. Some other SQL certificates have a test that you must pass. If you need a test, this certificate is not the correct choice.

SQL course certificate or vendor certification: what is the difference?

With a certificate of completion, such as ours, you show that you completed a course. Some database vendors give a certification when you pass their test.

SQL training and certification are different things. With SQLMaxx Learn, you get the training and a certificate of completion. You do not get a certification from a vendor.

Where to compare SQL certificates

We compare SQL certificates on two other pages. The best certificate for you depends on what you need: a course, a test that you must pass, or no cost.

The SQLMaxx Learn certificate costs nothing, and you pay no fee to claim it. The 66 lessons and the 615 practice problems also cost nothing.

Yes, to claim it. You can learn as a guest, with no account. When you sign up in the same browser, you keep the progress that you made as a guest.
