Our notes on DataCamp

We wrote these notes when we read the DataCamp site for our SQL comparisons. For each note, you see the day of our check and a link to the page that we read.

We give the label "Product's own words" to a note that holds only what DataCamp says about its own product.

DataCamp price and plans

  • Basic is free. Premium is "$28 /month billed annually". Checked November 1, 2026 (source)
  • In US dollars, DataCamp gives $35 a month as the monthly price of Premium. For the yearly plan, DataCamp shows "$28 /month billed annually" and "Save $90 with Yearly". On November 1, 2026, DataCamp showed no special price and no struck-through price. Checked November 1, 2026 (source)

DataCamp free use

  • On the free Basic plan, you get the first chapter of every course. Checked October 30, 2026 (source)

DataCamp account

  • You need a free account to start a course. Checked October 20, 2026 (source)
  • With a free account, we ran the two-query test on the coding exercise "Our very own table". Run Code shows the result but does not check it; Submit Answer checks it. We submitted all 350 rows in a different order (ORDER BY id DESC), and DataCamp accepted the query with "+100 XP", although the task said "Submit the code that has been provided". We submitted one row too few (LIMIT 349), and DataCamp showed "Incorrect submission" and "Your query returned a table with 349 rows while it should return a table with 350 rows." Checked November 1, 2026 (source)
  • With a free account, we did chapter 1 of Intermediate SQL, "Selecting Data", without the AI Tutor. The chapter has 3 videos and 8 exercises: 2 multiple-choice questions, 2 drag-and-drop exercises and 4 coding exercises. In 2 coding exercises, we wrote the query on an empty line, for example: "Return the unique countries represented in the films table using DISTINCT." In the other 2, we corrected or formatted a query that DataCamp gives: "Debug and fix the SQL query provided." and "Adjust the sample code so that it is in line with standard practices." We did the 8 exercises in about six minutes, and we did not watch the videos. Checked November 1, 2026 (source)
  • With a free account, we did chapter 1 of Joining Data in SQL, "Introducing Inner Joins", without the AI Tutor. The chapter has 3 videos and 7 exercises: 1 multiple-choice exercise with 2 questions and 6 coding exercises. In each coding exercise, DataCamp gives part of the query and we wrote the missing parts, for example: "Do an inner join of countries AS c (left) with populations AS p (right), on code." The last step of one coding exercise is a multiple-choice question. We did the 7 exercises in about five minutes, and we did not watch the videos. Checked November 1, 2026 (source)
  • With a free account, we ran the two-query test on the coding exercise "SELECT DISTINCT" in Intermediate SQL. The task, "Return the unique countries represented in the films table using DISTINCT", asks for no order, and the correct result has 65 rows. We submitted one row too few (LIMIT 64), and DataCamp showed "Incorrect submission" and "Your query returned a table with 64 rows while it should return a table with 65 rows." We submitted all 65 rows in a different order (ORDER BY country DESC), and DataCamp accepted the query and opened the next step. Checked November 1, 2026 (source)
  • With a free account, we ran the two-query test on the coding exercise "Your first join" in Joining Data in SQL. The task, an inner join of the cities and countries tables, asks for no order, and the correct result has 230 rows. We submitted one row too few (LIMIT 229), and DataCamp showed "Incorrect submission" and "Your query returned a table with 229 rows while it should return a table with 230 rows." We submitted all 230 rows in a different order (ORDER BY cities.name DESC), and DataCamp accepted the query and opened the next step. Checked November 1, 2026 (source)

DataCamp query check and help

  • DataCamp says that when you select Submit Answer, it tests your code and the output of your code, with a test for each coding exercise. Product's own words Checked October 30, 2026 (source)
  • In each exercise, you can select Take Hint or Show Answer. If DataCamp does not accept your code and your code is the same as the solution, you can contact the DataCamp support team. Product's own words Checked October 30, 2026 (source)
  • DataCamp says: "DataCamp does not provide personalized code support." When you send feedback on a course, DataCamp sends it to the instructor and the content team, and DataCamp says about that feedback: "you won't receive a response". We found no DataCamp forum where staff or instructors answer course questions. Checked October 30, 2026 (source)
