We wrote these notes when we read the Oracle University site for our SQL comparisons. For each note, you see the day of our check and a link to the page that we read.

Oracle University content and size

  • In the MySQL section of its OCI and Tech Exam Subscription page, Oracle lists two MySQL exams: MySQL 8.0 Database Administrator (1Z0-908, also as 1Z0-908-CHS) and MySQL 8.0 Database Developer (1Z0-909). Checked October 20, 2026 (source)
  • For Exam 1Z0-909, MySQL 8.0 Database Developer, Oracle lists seven topic groups with no weights: connectors and APIs, data-driven applications, MySQL schema objects and data, transactions, query optimization, MySQL stored programs, and JSON and Document Store.   • For Exam 1Z0-908, MySQL 8.0 Database Administrator, Oracle lists topic groups on architecture, installation and configuration, security, monitoring and maintenance, query optimization, backups and recovery, and high availability, with no weights. Oracle University certificate

  • Oracle offers Exam 1Z0-171 on Oracle MyLearn, where you can register for the online exam. We found no retirement date for it. Checked October 20, 2026 (source)
  • You pass a proctored online exam. You must show government-issued identification to Oracle. Checked October 20, 2026 (source)
  • You answer 60 multiple-choice questions in 120 minutes. You need 65% to pass. Checked October 20, 2026 (source)
  • You buy an Oracle Technology Exam Subscription for US$245. With it, you get one exam attempt, and the term is 6 months. Checked October 20, 2026 (source)
  • Oracle says that "Certain Oracle Database Credentials require periodic recertification". We found no statement about expiry or a validity period for the SQL Associate certification. Checked October 17, 2026 (source)
  • You download a digital badge from Oracle CertView. Oracle says that it links each valid badge to an Oracle-maintained verification page. Oracle says that on this page, it shows the credential, the date earned, and the expiration date, if any. Checked October 15, 2026 (source)
  • Oracle names SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE and MERGE statements, some Data Definition Language and Data Control Language statements, and tables, indexes, views and sequences. Checked October 15, 2026 (source)
  • Oracle gives eleven exam objectives with weights: relational database concepts (5%), SELECT with restricting and sorting data (15%), functions (25%), data from multiple tables (10%), subqueries (5%), SET operators (5%), DML statements (5%), indexes, synonyms and sequences (5%), DDL for tables and their relationships (15%), user access (5%), and data dictionary views and data in different time zones (5%). Oracle names the exam "Oracle AI Database SQL Associate", but we found no objective on AI or vector features: 0% of the listed weight. Checked October 17, 2026 (source)

  • For Exam 1Z0-071, Oracle lists topic groups with no weights: relational database concepts; the SQL SELECT statement; restricting and sorting data; single-row, conversion and group functions; data from multiple tables; subqueries; SET operators; DML statements and transactions; indexes, synonyms and sequences; DDL for tables; views; user access; data dictionary views; and data in different time zones.   • In its certification catalog (a PDF file from September 2024), Oracle lists both exams under Development: "Oracle Database SQL | 1Z0-071" and "Oracle Database 23ai SQL Associate | 1Z0-171". At that time, Oracle named Exam 1Z0-171 for Oracle Database 23ai. We found no release date from Oracle for either exam. Checked October 20, 2026 (source)
  • In a database certification guide (a PDF file from December 2018), Oracle names "Oracle Database SQL 1Z0-071" as the first exam for the Oracle Database 12c DBA OCA. Exam 1Z0-171 is not in that guide. Checked October 20, 2026 (source)
